Sintered density is the overriding factor controlling the mechanical properties of powder metal parts. Material Technologies (MTI) of Red Bank, NJ specializes in developing technologies which permit powdered metals to sinter to full density. Since its inception, the powder metal industry has attempted to improve properties so that it could combine the ability to make net shapes which minimize or reduce the need for capital, labor, energy, material and scrap. The powder metal industry constantly improves powders, tooling, presses, furnaces and makes use of pre and post sintering densification steps such as warm compaction, double press and sinter, forging and other methods, but such operations significantly add to costs and thus tend to offset the economic advantages of powder metallurgy.

Together with Engineered Pressed Materials of St. Marys and Ridgway, PA, MTI has developed ACTIVATEDTM NANOTECHTM or ANPTM low alloy steel powders* which sinter to full or near full density and allows parts to exhibit properties of wrought steel while retaining dimensional stability. This web site contains more detailed information on ANP powders and their properties.
